Singapore, 18 March 2023: Global Switch, a leading owner, operator and developer of large-scale, carrier and cloud-neutral, multi-customer data centres in Europe and Asia-Pacific including here in Singapore, where it owns and operates two large data centres, has recently partnered with Legion of Racers, a Singapore lifestyle and entertainment brand offering SIM Racing and e-sports. Following an overwhelming response to their Drive for Good event held earlier today, they are pleased to announce that around 70 children and youth attended from under resourced communities across Singapore.
The event, which was themed ‘Empowering Youth, Connecting Communities’ gave both Global Switch and LOR a unique opportunity to bring marginalised communities closer to society through a series of engaging educational activities throughout the day. Beneficiaries from three charities attended the event: Muslimin Trust Fund Association (MTFA), a charity providing financial aid and support systems for countless people in need, Darul Ihsan Orphanages an MFTA run residential facility, and SHINE Children and Youth Services who have been empowering children, youth, and their families in Singapore since 1976. The event was also supported by Community Chest, who amongst other causes includes children with special needs and who recently celebrated their 40th anniversary of working to create a collaborative and impactful social ecosystem that provides the opportunity for everyone to live a life of dignity. The youngest participant was a nine-year-old, who is currently under the care of MTFA, Singapore’s oldest active Muslim charity in Singapore.
During the event, beneficiaries experienced SIM Racing first-hand, where they participated in a time trial challenge to see who could manage to clock the shortest time over a specific distance, heard from the Drive For Good Ambassadors including Claire Jedrek, professional race car driver and influencer, and Jonathan Fong, Sports Scientist. It was during the sharing sessions that the beneficiaries were given advice on how to excel in their future career and participated in a sports leadership workshop where they were given an insight to the core values of respect, accountability, integrity and excellence.
Matthew Kong, Managing Director, Singapore of Global Switch, said, “We are delighted to partner with the Legion of Racers on Drive for Good, a hugely important event to bring together the local youth and communities of Singapore. We would like to thank all those involved in making the event a huge success and hope that all the beneficiaries who attended left feeling empowered. The event marks an important step in Global Switch’s continued investment into supporting the lives of the local communities in which we operate.”
Lim Keong Wee, Co-Founder of Legion of Racers, said, “There is a lot of synergy between Global Switch and Legion of Racers, given that there is a common desire to help connect communities, and to help empower and lift the lives of those around us. Drive for Good is our way of providing marginalised and under-resourced youth relevant social skills, knowledge and experiences to develop and succeed in life.”
Dr Abdul Qader Al-aidaroos, Executive Director of MTFA, said, “We would like to thank Global Switch and Legion of Racers for allowing our residents to come together to enrich their lives through social bonding and learning the values of leadership. We are grateful and privileged to be able to partake in this meaningful experience that will no doubt bring about a positive impact on our residents. We hope that through this event, more corporations will follow the lead of Global Switch and Legion of Racers and continue to support us in the therapeutic work that we do in caring and protecting our residents.”

About Muslimin Trust Fund Association
MTFA was established in 1904 with the aim of looking after the welfare of the poor Muslims and orphans in the then colony of Singapore. Till today, MTFA continues to help this demographic by supporting students from low-income families with bursary and scholarship awards, providing subsidized dialysis services to patients with kidney failure and offering free Islamic funeral services.
About MTFA Darul Ihsan Orphanages (DIO)
MTFA runs two residential facilities – Darul Ihsan Orphanage (Boys’ Home) and Darul Ihsan Lilbanat (Girls’ Home) – which has successfully supported and integrated many orphaned and displaced children into society, with many of them growing to become contributing members. Having been around since 1962, DI plans to place greater attention of the full-time holistic care provided to these children, to ensure their academic, emotional and spiritual development. DI has also implemented a personalized education curriculum and various skill-building activities to build character and develop potential income-generating skills. Furthermore, MTFA started a transitional living arrangement for discharged residents aged 18 and above. This approach is unique as it is the first for a Muslim organization to facilitate and promote safe integration of orphaned and displaced individuals into society.
